The Derailed Artist.
Have you always wanted to draw or paint? Do you have a feeling, an interest, even a compelling desire to do something creative? Maybe you pursued it when you were young, maybe followed it through high school or college, but something got you off track or actually derailed your path.
I have been teaching derailed artists for the last 25 years. I became one myself, more than once, so I can totally relate. I think that’s why I enjoy teaching derailed or delayed artists. I have had to navigate this myself, so in many ways I’m sharing my own journey in the hopes that it will help yours.
The derailed artist is someone who has the creative spirit. They always knew it and felt it. But life showed up with complicated obligations, and perhaps the opportunity to pursue it got off track. After many years, the dream never went away. The what-if, if only, sits on their shoulders, haunting them to come back.
This blog is based on personal observations and opinions that I’ve gathered throughout my journey. Not a scientific study, but thoughts of mine through the years. I’ve shared them with my students; hopefully, they can help those who want to get back to it or begin.
