Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

Tommy loves the stars, a bit of an astrologer. He tries to learn all he can about the stars in the sky. When the sun goes down, he can’t wait to sit on a branch on his favorite tree to gaze out and imagine what is out there. Is there a different land where another child is looking up at the same stars at night?

She is so forgetful, always leaving things behind, not knowing where to find them. Is it because she is so busy? There are many sheep to look after; it’s hard to remember everything. She looks to Little Boy Blue, when she gets in a scrap. It seems like whenever she needs help, he is right there.

Jack and his twin brother Jacob live on a chicken farm on the edge of the village. He doesn’t like to work hard and will do whatever it takes to get out of his chores, but he has a secret that makes it all right. The children in The Village don’t seem to realize how much he does to keep things running smoothly, but he is not one to take credit in any way.

She is a friend to all, but a bit of a loner. Always keeps up with right and wrong, believes in truth above all. Sometimes it is hard to see into her heart, but the little lamb that she loves so much is proof of her caring.

He lives on the outside of The Village, next to Bo Peep. That’s the way he likes it; she has his heart, but doesn’t know it. He is always on hand when she needs him, she is so forgetful; but there is nowhere he would rather be. He stays aware of everyone in The Village and is the first to lend a hand when someone needs help with anything. Sometimes he stays so busy that a nap in the middle of the day is what he needs to keep going.

She is very contrary and confident once she makes up her mind. She tends to her Pretty Maids in a Row with a kind heart. Nellie, the youngest of her prize tulips, is the calm in the flowerbed, while Mary Contrary counts on her to keep things in order. Mary’s sidekick is Edward the Frog; he is such a smart aleck but very streetwise as he watches over the Pretty Maids. He knows the score and what real problems are, but sometimes he carries tales to the maids and puts them all in a tizzy.

Benjamin is sleepy all the time; his clock at night keeps waking him up. He waits all year to hear it chime at 1:00 in the morning on his favorite day of the year, New Year’s Day! He is fascinated with clocks and knows them inside and out; what makes them tick and keeps all the clocks in The Village on time.

Jacob is so responsible, up at dawn when the rooster crows. He has eggs to gather and chores to do. If he gets it all done, he can deliver the eggs to the children in The Village. They count on him to start each morning, so he likes to keep on schedule. Boy Blue is a good friend; Jacob is always willing to stop what he is doing to lend him a hand.

Sissy and her baby sister, Little Bit, are always together. Big sister wants to make sure that she takes care of her little sister and teaches her all she knows. They live next door to Johnny; Little Bit is always watching to see when he is playing outdoors. If you hear the clapping of hands, they are together learning a new game. Sissy feels happy in her heart, knowing that everyone in The Village will help any way they can.

All he really wants to do is play, from sunup to sundown. Getting him in at bedtime is so hard; he just wants to play with his dog Scout. Why doesn’t everyone understand that?

Little Miss Muffet and Mother Goose stay close. They both watch over the children in The Village, and they meet each morning to discuss the needs of all. Mother Goose will confide in her and only her. She loves to read, always finding wonderful stories and looking for someone to share them with. Sometimes so engrossed in her imagination, she is unaware of everything around her, even the unexpected spider that lives over her door!

She is the maternal character in The Land of Mother Goose, quiet, gentle, and full of wisdom. The children come to her when they need advice, but she never gives any unless asked first; without seeking help, there is often no listening. So she waits, but when asked, her answers are powerful and full of truth.
